Our Story
Welcome to NurseryRx! As a small family business, we know how important it is that our customers become familiar with who we are, as people, not only as a place to shop for plants. Because we know that a plant is a contributing factor in the environment in which we live, whether domestically, professionally, or recreationally, the source for those plants is a contributor to the energy carried in the plant. Together, compassion and science join in the prosperity of plants, so it makes sense that to succeed in growing a healthy crop of greenery requires caregivers possessing both characteristics. The name “NursuryRX” represents the nurturing and love of a nursery and the science of the prescription for healthy growth. Meet Mike and Leah Gochis, the combination that created NurseryRX.
Leah is an ICU RN (nurse) here in Colorado. She chose nursing as a life career because of her curiosity over the science of life, and the role that love and compassion play in health care. The ICU allows the independent and directed examination of health data to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease. In 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic threw a curve-ball to the medical community in many ways. As data became available over time, the approach towards prevention and treatment of COVID has progressed. In the meantime, however, a million deaths hit the health care industry’s staff in an emotional way that could not be matched in the past. Suffering and death was everywhere. Leah, in response to the overwhelming sadness she felt in her work, turned to her houseplants to bring joy and nurturing to her soul. She found peaceful coexistence in her work and her plants. The house began to transform into a jungle, which made her husband, Mike, begin to wonder how different lighting, humidity, temperature would impact different plants, and he began to research.
Mike is a walking data factory. As a consulting data analyst, Mike is constantly gathering data and analyzing it for trends. Whether it’s as a casino manager, construction manager, or greenhouse management, Mike analyzes the data to achieve a successful outcome, and continues to monitor and add more data to be sure he is always up to date. Working in parallel with Leah, Mike began to study propagation, tissue culturing, grafting, and the mechanics of overall greenhouse conditions, layout, and the automation of monitoring and care systems.
One day Mike surprised Leah with a Monstera Albo, and bought a Philodendron Giganteum Variegata for himself. Needless say, it all happened organically after that for Mike and Leah, and pretty soon NursuryRX was born. Together they work to create an environment that allows their plants to grow and prosper, with science and love.
Mike and Leah have two sons, Jackson and Jameson, both of whom can be seen pacing up and down the aisles of the greenhouses, watering plants, admiring new growths, and breaking up moss and soil. There may even be a few little bulldozers in their soil buckets.
NurseryRX wants to be your go-to source for plants while knowing the story behind them. Although they grow and propagate a large variety of common houseplants, NurseryRX also grows rare specimens, often imported from their natural homeland. Propagation of these babies is sensitive and time-consuming, and the availability of these will vary from time to time. But when you adopt any of our rare babies, you know the nursery that raised them from conception.
We hope you will visit us often, trust us with your plant family, and join the soulful path of adding green peace & love to your environment.
